Music Video: “Weird Al” Yankovic – “Lame Claim To Fame”

It’s been fun, but Weird Al’s #8videos8days promotion has almost come to an end. Today’s video from the new album Mandatory Fun is “Lame Claim To Fame”, the third original song that has been released.  If I’m counting correctly, today was day 7 of 8, with one remaining video coming tomorrow.  There is also a rumor going around that following the 8 videos there will also be something special to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Al’s film UHF.

With only one video to go, my bets are actually on a video for the polka medley “NOW That’s What I Call Polka!”, but it could very well also be a video for the one remaining parody on the album, “Inactive” (parody of “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons).

Today’s video is a lot of fun. In addition to the celebrity “encounters” there are also cameos by Dr. Demento and members of Al’s band. I know I’ve said it before but I will say it again.  Even though the last couple of Weird Al albums ALSO had music videos for most of the songs, there would usually be only one or possibly two live action videos (where Al appears) and the rest have been animated. It’s really nice that they took the time to produce proper videos for most of these songs, especially since Al is a pioneer of the music video format, back when MTV actually used to show them instead of reality shows.
