Truly Judy’s Uncommon Oldies – The Kinks – “Come On Now”

This week’s tune takes us to radio station WTMA 1250 AM in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Kinks hailed from London, England.  In their early days they were called The Ravens, playing a combination of R&B and rock ‘n’ roll.  A self-produced demo tape was sent to record producer Shel Talmy who helped them land a contract with Pye Records in 1964. Their first six records hit the Top 40 charts in 1964 and 1965.

This song, the B-side of their #6 national hit “Tired Of Waiting For You” was later covered by The Pussywillows and The Plimsouls, and came from their second studio album, Kinda Kinks.

“Come On Now” hit #35 on the WTMA Sporty Top Forty for the week ending March 12, 1965.
