This week, Spoon will release They Want My Soul, their 8th studio album. Even though the band formed over 20 years ago (1993 in Austin, Texas), they received the most exposure in the mid-to-late 2000’s, getting more popular with each album release. The first song I ever heard was “All The Pretty Girls Go To The City” from their 2002 release Kill The Moonlight, and actually played it on the radio show I used to host back then. A few years later, I started discovering more of their music, and they’ve become one of my favorite bands of all time.
This week marks an overall change in the way I’ll be putting together these weekly playlists from now on. The original idea was to have one playlist that people would subscribe to and then each week it would be wiped out and a new batch of songs would take their place. On paper, it was a good idea because nobody ever has to subscribe to more than one playlist, but then it eventually started to have an effect on the prior weeks’ blog posts, which contained links to those specific playlists (and the list of songs) but the actual songs would no longer match up. If that makes sense, then let’s move on.
Starting this week, we not only got our own domain (cuterthanpie.com) but I actually went back through every previous post and cleaned up all the links, videos and playlists. From now on, every past edition of The Weekly Dose will be available to listen to on this site. However, there is a new master Spotify playlist that I’d recommend everybody subscribe to. All previous tracks can be found there (currently around 100 songs so far) and it will be updated each week with the latest edition.
Finally, before we head into this week’s playlist, I want to thank everybody for the support over the last couple of weeks. Not only did we move to a new domain name, but we’ve been averaging over 100 hits a day (and broke a record last week with a one day total of 465 views).
“Daft Punk Is Playing At My House”
by LCD Soundsystem (2005)
When you first see the title of this song, you sort of think it’s probably going to be a joke, or some kind of novelty song. A song written about electronic duo Daft Punk coming and playing at somebody’s house? Come on! But after you HEAR it, you know that it’s no joke at all. It’s incredible!
LCD Soundsystem is the musical project of New York music producer James Murphy, and “Daft Punk…” comes his first full self-titled CD, released in 2005. All of the LCD Soundsystem is excellent… a mix of dance and techno and rock and pop. I definitely recommend checking out the entire catalog. James Murphy released another LCD Soundsystem disc, Sound Of Silver, in 2007 and is now working on his third CD, hopefully to be released this year. He is also doing new music for the soundtrack of the upcoming Ben Stiller film Greenberg, and will be performing at the Coachella festival in April.
