I must admit that I really don’t know too much about Thao Nguyen and her band The Get Down Stay Down. What I do know is that I like what I’ve heard from them, and especially the video that we feature this week.
This animated video is for “Cool Yourself,” the latest single release from the band’s fourth album Know Better Learn Faster, which was released in October of 2009. Keep an eye peeled during all of the newspaper headlines that appear throughout the video. See if you can spot all of the Miley Cyrus references (you might need to pause it, as they go by pretty fast). Let us know what you think.
We’re kicking off the new year the right way, bringing you what might be the first great song of 2010! I must admit, I had never really even heard of Field Music until recently, but they have been playing this a lot on Sirius XMU the last month or so. It turns out that the band has been around since 2004, when it formed in Sunderland, England, and is fronted by two brothers, David and Peter Brewis,
When I first heard this song, I just assumed that it was an old song that I had never heard until now, because Field Music has a sound that is reminiscent of the 1980’s. In fact, they remind me the most of bands like Crowded House, Squeeze and XTC. “Them That Do Nothing” is the first single from their upcoming CD called Measure, which will be released on February 16th. Ever since I first heard this song, all I have to do is think about it for a few seconds and it’s stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
“Heaven Can Wait” is the first single from IRM, the third studio album from French singer/actress Charlotte Gainsbourg. All of the songs on the CD, which was released December 9th, were written and produced by Beck, and he duets with Charlotte on this song.
You can definitely hear Beck’s influence on “Heaven Can Wait.” It sounds like it could have easily been included on any of his past few CD’s. This is currently the free music video of the week on iTunes, if you act before Monday, December 21st, so go grab it for your computer or portable device if you enjoy the song as much as we do.
Another week has come to an end, and so it’s time for another music video. And for the second week in a row, we have two videos for you to enjoy.
The first video is “Deadbeat Summer” from Neon Indian. Sirius XMU has been playing this lately and it quickly became one of my top five songs of the year. Of course, I discovered it at one of the coldest times of the year, but it’s definitely got a summer vibe. Just imagine playing this in the summertime with all the windows in your car rolled down.
